Construction of Horsa Glider
26/06/2008

The Assault Glider Trust is building a Horsa Glider at RAF Shawbury near Shrewsbury. This is one of a series of projects being undertaken by the trust, a charity dedicated to commemorating the men and machines involved in gliderborne operations during WW2.The Horsa was the main glider used by British airborne Forces in the assaults on Nazi Occupied Europe in 1943 -1945. Along with its American designed partner, the WACO it was used in the assaults in Sicily, Normandy, Arnhem and The Rhine Crossings. The Horsa was in the main flown by the men of the Glider Pilot Regiment, reinforced in 1945 by the RAF.

The Assault Glider Trust is also restoring A WACO CG4A glider, mainly used by the British in Sicily and Burma, and a DC47 Dakota, the most famous glider tug
 and parachute aircraft.
