Waterloo - Project Hougoumont
21/06/2008

A joint Anglo/Belgian project has been launched to conserve the Chateau of Goumont~ better known as Hougoumont~ on the Waterloo Battlefield. On the 18th of June 1815 this Chateau~ on the right flank of the Allied Army commanded by Wellington~ was defended heroically by units from the Hanoverian~ Dutch and British Armies drawing evermore French Forces away from the main battle.
Mr Steve Stanton has commissioned `a series of pictures by `the well known artist~ Mr Christopher Collingwood~ to commemorate the the Battle of Waterloo. The first 2 relate to the Struggle for Hougoumont ` Farm and show from both a British and French perspective the attack of the Grenadier Company of the 1st Bn of the 2nd Line Regt of Prince Jerome's Division being repulsed by men of the 2nd ( Coldstream) and the 3rd ( Scots) Regiments of Foot Guards. Proceeds from the sale of these pictures is going to help launch Project Hougoumont. For details of the Waterloo Collection>`>`>`>`>`>`
