Education and Schools

BHTV has been asked by many LEAs, Schools and Battlefield Tour Companies to use our unique expertise and experience to produce a series of short programmes to support teachers in the teaching of various history syllabi.  As a result we have produced an initial series of programmes to support the teaching of KS3 and GSCE year groups World War 1 Studies. These programmes can be used to enhance and improve the experience of a battlefield tour. PowerPoint slides and locally reproducible resources will also form part of the downloadable package. Programmes will be grouped under themes that reflect the QCA scheme of work and examination board specifications. This initial package will be followed by subsequent packages which will cover other areas of the history syllabus.

Education and Schools - Western Front - The Origin and Development of Trench Warfare
Product No. BHTV_SAE_001_002b
One of the questions most frequently asked by students when viewing a preserved trench system is, ‘How did it get like this?’ The programme charts the process of change from the open war of manoeuvre of the first few weeks of fighting to the persistent state of trench warfare that took four years to break and hundreds of thousands of lives to break. THIS IS A FREE FILM

Subsequent programmes will include an examination of the construction, features and layout of the trenches and a separate programme will look at in detail the experience of soldiers living and fighting in the trenches.
